A wedding invitation does two jobs at once. It carries information — who, where, when — and it carries feeling. The best digital invitations do both without making the guest work for either. Here is the process we recommend to every couple who starts on DawatNama.
Start with the information, not the design
It is tempting to pick a template first. Resist it. Open a notes app and write out the raw facts: full names of the bride and groom, every event you are hosting, the exact venue address, the date, and the time you actually want guests to arrive. Design decisions become easy once you know how much text has to fit.
Choose a template that matches the event, not your taste
A Mehndi is loud, yellow and joyful. A Nikah is quiet and reverent. A Valima is formal. If you are hosting all three on one invitation, pick a template that can carry the most formal event and let colour accents do the work for the rest.
- Royal Mughal — deep maroon and gold, best for Baraat and Valima
- Islamic Elegance — green and gold with calligraphy, made for Nikah
- Modern Minimal — white and rose, for couples who want restraint
- Floral Garden — pastels and botanicals, perfect for Mehndi and Mayun
- Classic Heritage — navy and silver, quietly formal for any event
Write the names the way your family says them
This sounds obvious and it is the single most common thing couples get wrong. If the groom is known to everyone as Ammar but his documents say Muhammad Ammar Sohail, use the name the guests will recognise. Save the formal version for the Nikah Nama.

Layer the events in the order guests experience them
- 1
Dholki and Mayun
Family-only, usually at home. Many couples leave these off the shared invitation entirely and send them to a smaller list.
- 2
Mehndi
Large, informal, colour-heavy. Include a dress code note if you want the yellow-and-green look in your photos.
- 3
Nikah and Baraat
The ceremony itself. This is the one guests screenshot, so make the venue and time impossible to misread.
- 4
Valima
Hosted by the groom's family. If the guest lists differ, DawatNama lets you publish separate invitations that share the same couple details.
Add the practical details people are too polite to ask for
- A Google Maps link — not just an address. Nobody wants to type 'Royal Rodale Marquee, near Kalma Chowk' into their phone while driving.
- A contact number for two people, ideally one from each side of the family.
- Parking guidance, if the venue is difficult.
- Whether children are welcome. Say it warmly, but say it.
Preview on a phone. Always.
Roughly nine in ten of your guests will open the invitation on a phone, in WhatsApp, one-handed, while doing something else. Use the mobile preview in the editor before publishing. If the couple's names wrap awkwardly or the date sits below the fold, fix it now.
The invitation is the first thing your guests hold of your wedding. Make it feel like the day itself.
Share it the way people actually share things
Copy the link, send it to your closest ten people first, and ask them to tell you if anything is confusing. Then send it wide. A digital invitation is the rare wedding decision you can fix after you have sent it — but a clean first send saves you a hundred clarifying messages.
